As we continue with our series on business viability, using the city of Kemah, Texas as an example one of the the first steps would be to gather publicly available data like the following:
- A map of Kemah showing the transportation grip: Kemah and the surrounding area have ground transportation (Interstate Highways, Inland canals, rail.)
- International Airports accessible from Kemah.
- Large fleets of pleasure boats
- Cruise Ships
- Deep Water Ports
- Reliable utility and communication grid.
As we do this, we note that the total population of Kemah is less than 2,000, so that might determine that starting a business in the area may not be viable; however, there are other factors that may come into play before we make that decision.
We will look into what a 30 mile radius has for us next month when we research our market area. We will also begin to build models to form our small business and explore the options to complete a financial section of a business plan.
Feedback is welcome.
